Stormslider vs. Patternlock

I decided to write a short review of each of these screen locking applications and let you decide for yourself which is the best.

Stormslider

How to unlock:

Slide your finger across the white tab on the bottom of screen to unlock this application.

Extra Features:

Automatically stops the “Slide to unlock” text from shimmering after about five seconds to save battery life.

Shows time and date in a very nice format at the top of the screen.

Set the screen to lock automatically after a certain time of inactivity.

Set the screen to lock on incoming phone calls.

Set the screen to lock after device reboots.

You can also set an alternate 4 digit password that will need to be entered after you slide the tab.

Patternlock

How to unlock:

Slide your finger across the 9 bubbles in the correct predetermined order to unlock this application.

Extra Features:

Shows date and time at the top of the screen.

Disable autolock when in defined locations (may not work on all carriers).

Set the screen to lock automatically after a certain time of inactivity.

Set the screen to lock on incoming phone calls (unlock by clicking escape and reactivate by choosing “Lock Screen” from the menu when in a call).

Set the screen to lock after device reboots.

Lock individual applications.

Backup/Restore to an encrypted file.

Choose your own unlock pattern.

Email, SMS & MMS notification icons.

Choose your own background image.

A “Lock Out” feature that will block any input for a set period of time if the wrong pattern is entered a user-defined maximum number of times (can be disabled)

A counter of how many times your device has been locked out (located in the options screen)

Launch automatically when the lock key is pressed (only for devices that are not secured by a password)

Emergency call button (can be disabled)

Sound effects when unlocking and when an incorrect password is entered (can be turned off in options, and won’t play if device is on silent, vibrate or alerts off)

Can pick applications that, when running, PatternLock should not autolock

Ability to lock the orientation in Portrait or to have it work in both Portrait and Landscape

Conclusion

So what we end up with are two amazing lock applications.

The Stormslider has all the functionality you can ask for, along with the sleekest and most beautiful design we’ve seen so far. Great for showing off to your friends.

On the other hand, if you like to customize the way your blackberry works, you have no choice but to go with Patternlock. I mean really, is there anything they haven’t covered as far as customization goes?

But, before you decide to purchase either, I would suggest trying the lite versions of both of these applications.
